Bachelor of Social Work

Graduates of the TWU BSW program are well-prepared to pursue graduate degrees to continue their education, particularly the Master of Social Work (MSW) degree, where advanced standing options expedite the degree completion pursuit to one year of fulltime study. Regardless of which path students choose to take, our BSW program empowers students to make a positive impact on the world!

Social Work

Within our Judeo-Christian academic community, grounded in the liberal arts tradition, the TWU Bachelor of Social Work  Program is committed to providing the foundation of rigorous study for student social workers to excel as empathic, competent, generalist servant leaders who assist vulnerable populations with integrity and unconditional positive regard, adhering to the values and ethics promoted by the profession of social work, with an unwavering commitment to social justice.

Admission Requirements

The BSW program has a separate programmatic application process. Interested applicants to the BSW program must first receive acceptance to the University or must be currently enrolled as a TWU student.

Prospective students may contact our Admissions Counselors at admissions@tnwesleyan.edu. Current TWU students may apply to the BSW program via their student portal or by contacting admissions.

To earn the BSW degree without transferring in with an Associate Degree, students must complete a minimum of 124-semester hours of targeted study, which includes 38-semester hours of general education, 52-semester hours of major requirements, and 34-semester hours of general electives. The content courses in the major requirements may be completed in three semesters (one calendar year), while the field practicum is completed in one semester.

Note: To start in the BSW major, students must have completed a minimum of 45-60 semester hours. If you are transferring fewer than 45-semester hours, you may be accepted as pre-SWK while you complete general education courses and electives.

The Tennessee Wesleyan University BSW Program maintains continuous accreditation through the accreditation though the COUNCIL ON SOCIAL WORK EDUCATION (CSWE). In addition to the CSWE, the TWU BSW program is affiliated with many other social work associations including the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), the North American Association of Christians in Social Work (NACSW), and the National Association of Black Social Workers (NABSW).
