First-year Experience
TWU 101 is a course designed to help first-year students succeed and students take this course in their first semester at TWU. This class will give students the tools to be successful, assist with personal growth, and help them feel comfortable at TWU.
TWU 101 provides practical advice in notetaking, reading, time management, opportunities for personal wellness and reflection, a place to connect with peers and learn the ins and outs of life at TWU. The class focuses on the liberal arts education they are receiving at Tennessee Wesleyan University to their future career.
TWU 101 mark the first High Impact Practice course that Tennessee Wesleyan students will experience; designed to connect classroom learning to their future career and students will develop their ePortfolio to use during their job search.
TWU Peer Mentors
The TWU 101 class has a Peer Mentor dedicated to assisting new students in their transition. These fellow Bulldogs will help you communicate and answer questions, provide opportunities for engagement outside of class and support you throughout your freshman year.
Starting at Orientation and going through the first year, the Success Team will be making sure that first-year students have every opportunity to be successful. First year students will have an academic advisor dedicated to class selection, which will happen during Orientation. TDub Takeoff provides an opportunity to meet peers, your TWU 101 instructors, and access important resources. Plus, Success Coaches will provide specialized sessions to support freshman student needs.

Day 1: Wednesday, August 13 - Move-In Day
- Check-in from 9:00-noon for students that attended an earlier summer orientation.
- Check-in from 1:00-4:00 for students attending orientation on Wednesday, August 13.
Students will report directly to their assigned residence hall, and RAs will assist them with the check-in process.
Day 2: Thursday, August 14 - TDub Takeoff Day 1

Day 3: Friday, August 15 - TDub Takeoff Day 2

Day 4: Saturday, August 16 - Welcome Back Bash!
Enjoy FREE pancakes in Wallace Square from 8:00 – 10:00 AM. Whether you’re just visiting or an Athens/ McMinn County native, you and your loved ones are invited to enjoy a completely free pancake breakfast.
Join the Bulldog family for a Welcome Back Bash in the Colloms Courtyard from 5:00-8:00. Students will get to interact with faculty/staff and their families and other TWU students while eating dinner, playing games, and listening to music. Join us as we kick off a new year!
Day 5: Sunday, August 17 - Relax and get ready for classes!
Resident students will attend a mandatory residence hall meeting at 7:00 pm in Townsend Auditorium.
