BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Anna Fung, OTD, MOT, OTR/L, transitioned into academia in February 2024. Prior to this role, she worked for more than a year and a half at a non-profit organization serving pediatric cancer patients and spent over five years as a school-based practitioner in early childhood settings. Her additional clinical experience includes acute care, outpatient pediatrics, and Early Head Start programs.
Dr. Fung earned her Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Science from the University of Kansas, followed by a Master’s in Occupational Therapy and a post-professional Doctorate in Occupational Therapy from the University of Kansas Medical Center. Her doctoral capstone project examined the efficacy of co-teaching in integrated early childhood classrooms. Her research interests include school-based practice, pediatric oncology, innovative and emerging fields of practice, and pediatric occupational therapy.
In 2024, Dr. Fung collaborated with a research team to conduct a systematic review on the impact of non-pharmacological cognitive interventions for children with cancer. Their work was published in Pediatric Blood & Cancer in October 2024. She has presented numerous posters at national conferences, including the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) conference, on topics related to her practice areas such as Early Head Start, school-based therapy, and pediatric oncology. That same year, a master’s thesis group under her mentorship was invited to transition their poster presentation into a short course, which Dr. Fung co-presented with MOT students at the Tennessee Occupational Therapy Association (TNOTA) annual conference.
Dr. Fung currently serves as Vice Chair of the Southeast Region for TNOTA, where she helps coordinate local continuing education events, foster practitioner networking, and provide professional support. She also founded and facilitates the Academia Community of Practice through TNOTA, organizing quarterly meetings for faculty members to exchange evidence-based teaching strategies and address challenges in implementation.
Outside of Tennessee Wesleyan University, Dr. Fung enjoys traveling—especially to visit family in California—trying new foods, experimenting with new recipes, and spending time with her two dogs, Oni (a golden doodle) and Millie (a black lab). She and her boyfriend also enjoy skiing in the winter and spending time on the lake during the summer.
