Medical Benefits
Health Insurance
Full-time employees are offered medical benefits administered through UMR using United HealthCare Choice Plus network through Quantum Health. Tennessee Wesleyan University offers two (2) options for insurance through the UMR: HSA plan and CoPay plan. Additionally, TWU offers Teladoc services to all full-time employees.
Health Savings Account
TWU offers an Health Saving Account (HSA) through Optum Bank for employees enrolled into the HSA medical option. TWU contributes $35.00 per month into participating employee’s HSA account. Full-time employees can elect to contribute $3,850 for individual coverage or $7,550 with family coverage.
Transparency in Coverage Machine Readable Files (MRF)
Through UnitedHealthcare, UMR creates and publishes the Machine-Readable Files on behalf of Tennessee Wesleyan University.

Benefits Provided Through Guardian
Dental
Full-time employees are offered voluntary dental benefits through Guardian. This coverage currently is offered through the DentalGuard Preferred Network.
Vision
Vision benefits are offered on a voluntary basis through Guardian.
Basic Term Life
As a full-time employee, you are provided life and accidental death & dismemberment insurance through Guardian. The amount is 1.5 times your annual salary rounded to the next highest $1,000, to a maximum of $140,000. These benefits will reduce 35% at age 65 and reduce 50% of the original pre-age 65 benefits amount at age 70. Portability ceases onattainment of age 70. Your spouse is also eligible for $10,000 and your dependent children age 14 days to age 20 (26 if full-time student) are eligible for $2,000.
Long-Term Disability
Long Term Disability insurance is offered to full-time employees after two (2) years of full-time continuous service at no additional cost to you through Guardian. Long Term Disability insurance can help if you were to suffer a long-term injury or illness. Your long–term benefits would be payable at 60% of your monthly earnings up to a monthly maximum benefit amount of $5,000 and a minimum benefit amount of $100 after a 180 day elimination period.
Voluntary Benefits Offered Through Guardian
Voluntary Term Life Insurance
As a full-time employee, you are offered the opportunity to purchase additional life and accidental death and dismemberment insurance through Guardian. This coverage is deducted through easy payroll deductions. As an employee, you may purchase benefits from $10,000 to $300,000 in increments of $10,000, and coverage is also available for spouse and children.
Voluntary Short Term Disability
As a full-time employee, you are offered the opportunity to purchase Short-Term Disability through easy payroll deduction through Guardian. Benefits are payable on the 15th day for a disability due to injury or from sickness. Benefits are paid based on 60% of your pre-disability earnings and are payable to a maximum of 26 weeks.
Voluntary Accident
As a full-time employee, you are offered the opportunity to purchase Accident insurance through easy pay-roll deductions through Guardian. Benefits are paid directly to you, regardless of any other coverage in place.
Voluntary Cancer
As a full-time employee, you are offered the opportunity to purchase Cancer insurance through easy payroll deductions through Guardian. Benefits are paid directly to you, regardless of any other coverage in place.
Voluntary Critical Illness
As a full-time employee, you are offered the opportunity to purchase Critical Illness insurance through easy payroll deductions through Guardian. Benefits are paid directly to you, regardless of any other coverage in place.
Retirement Plan
Retirement
TWU is pleased to offer a 403(b) retirement plan to all eligible employees. All newly hired employees completing two (2) years of service will be provided coverage through Valic, with employer contribution of 5%. Existing TIAA CREF 403(b) plans will be honored for new hires with active accounts.
Educational Benefits for You and Your Family
Tuition Waiver Benefit
Full-time employees and their spouses and dependent children are eligible for tuition waivers at TWU (must be undergraduate study). Spouse and dependent children are also eligible for the tuition waiver benefit at Emory & Henry (Two years of full-time employment is required for Emory & Henry).
Tuition Exchange (TE) Program
Full-time employees, their spouses and dependent children are eligible for tuition waivers at participating TE institutions. The Tuition Exchange program offers scholarships to over 660 member schools covering full tuition, one-half tuition for a non-resident at a public institution or a rate set by the Tuition Exchange.
Council of Independent Colleges
TWU participates in The Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) Tuition Exchange Program. The CIC Tuition Exchange Program is a network of CIC colleges and universities willing to accept, tuition-free, students (including employees, spouses and dependent children) from families of full-time employees of other CIC participating institutions. Some participating colleges allow graduate study and part-time study.
Time Off Benefits
Holiday
Staff employees receive holiday pay for the following: Independence Day, Labor Day, Fall Break, Thanksgiving, Christmas Break, Spring Break, Easter Break, Memorial Day, and Juneteenth (approximately 20 holidays per year).
Personal
Personal time is granted to full-time employees. The amount of personal time to which an employee is entitled is determined by the cumulative length of full-time service and is accrued on a monthly basis.
Sick
Sick time is granted to full-time employees at the rate of one day per month of continuous full-time employment.
