Tennessee Wesleyan University and Cleveland State Community College Partner to Create Seamless Transfer Pathway for STEM Education Students

Tennessee Wesleyan University and Cleveland State Community College recently strengthened their partnership through a series of articulation agreements designed to provide students with a clear pathway to continue their education in several STEM related education fields.

The agreements establish structured transfer pathways for students pursuing careers in biology, math, and chemistry education (grades 6–12). Through these aligned programs, students who complete an associate degree or up to 60 credit hours at Cleveland State can transfer those credits directly to Tennessee Wesleyan, entering with junior standing and continuing toward a Bachelor of Science degree.

By carefully aligning coursework between the two institutions, the partnership ensures that students experience a smooth transition into upper-level coursework at TWU. Students who complete an eligible associate degree will have satisfied TWU’s general education requirements, thus allowing them to focus on major-specific courses and progress efficiently toward graduation.

“This partnership reflects Tennessee Wesleyan’s and Cleveland State’s shared commitment to student success and higher education access,” said Dr. Tyler Forrest, president of Tennessee Wesleyan University. “We are proud to continue strengthening our longstanding partnership with Cleveland State. These pathways will allow students to seamlessly continue their education and achieve a bachelor’s degree while preparing for meaningful careers in the classroom.”

The agreements include detailed academic plans that map courses from Cleveland State directly to Tennessee Wesleyan programs, enabling students to directly see how their credits will transfer.

Graduates of these programs will be prepared to enter the workforce as qualified secondary education teachers in biology, chemistry, or math, helping meet the growing need for educators in the region.

This collaboration highlights both institutions’ ongoing commitment to expanding access to higher education and strengthening workforce pathways across Southeast Tennessee.
