Volunteer and Serve

Your college years provide you with the greatest opportunity you will ever have for personal development. At TWU we believe that giving back and developing into servant leader is an important part of your education.

We've built this idea into your Wesleyan experience and provide numerous volunteer opportunities throughout the year. Each fall, the Bulldog family joins together for the annual Day of Service. Students, faculty and staff head out to the greater-Athens community to volunteer at non-profits in need of services.

The 9th annual Day of Service is a product of TWU’s ongoing commitment to service learning for the entire TWU family. 306 members of the TWU community joined for the service day, working at 25 different sites, including churches, schools, community improvement centers and other community non-profits.

Love Thy Neighbor Project

The Love Thy Neighbor Project is dedicated to eliminating the barrier of food insecurity for individuals at Tennessee Wesleyan University, as well as throughout the surrounding Athens and McMinn County community. In the fall of 2013, the Love Thy Neighbor Project was developed by the Center for Service and Leadership staff and an AmeriCorps VISTA member to address issues of food insecurity in McMinn County. The Love Thy Neighbor Project seeks to provide low-income individuals with healthy, fresh foods on a regular basis to alleviate the burden of food insecurity and encourage a healthy diet. In the last year, the TWU Campus Food Pantry served more than 2,500 clients, the Mobile Food Pantry provided food to 1,426 local households, and the Back Sacks program supplied 70 school-aged children with weekend meals for 38 weeks.
