Bachelor of Social Work
Empathic, responsible, competent social workers, ready to change the world…
The Tennessee Wesleyan University Social Work Program provides the foundation for those who want to make a difference in the world to benefit others, one person at a time. Students in the Bachelor of Social Work program have caring hearts, personal experiences and a level of understanding that there are injustices in the world.
The Social Work major is intended for students who will seek employment in a social work-related profession upon completion of the undergraduate degree and/or continue as a graduate student in social work or a related field. Advanced standing graduates have the potential to complete graduate school in just one year following graduation from TWU.
TWU Social Work is a licensure program. Upon graduation, students are eligible to become a licensed bachelor of social work (LBSW) through the State of Tennessee Department of Health, Board of Social Workers, as well as a Tennessee Licensed School Social Worker through the Tennessee State Board of Education.
100% of Social Work graduates have been placed in a job or graduate school. While graduates have a variety of opportunities, they all have one thing in common, a genuine care and sense of responsibility to improve the lives of their fellow person.
You might see TWU Social Work Graduates working in:
• Children’s Advocacy
• Healthcare Case Management
• Mental Health
• Community Development
• A variety of other positions concerned with social justice and advocacy for underserved and oppressed populations.
The academic study of social work is complemented by field practicum opportunities, which provide 400 hours of practical experience and networking opportunities with service agencies in the community and surrounding area. This field education component, completed in the students’ junior and senior years, provides vital hands-on experience and service-learning opportunities.
