Paying For Study Abroad

Paying For Study Abroad

Studying at TWU prepares you for the career you want with experience employers are looking for

Basic financial information

  • We recommend meeting with the Associate Vice President of Student Financial Services Lacey Weese to discuss your personal options.
Institutional scholarships cannot be applied to any Study Abroad trip.
Students cannot get any financial aid after they graduate. So if your trip is the summer after you graduate, you would need to exhaust all aid types before commencement.
Student loans are a great option
Students can borrow a certain amount per year automatically based on their grade level
Freshman $5,500, sophomores $6,500, juniors and beyond $7,500
Some students may qualify for subsidized loans, which means that interest does not accrue until after graduation

On all federal student loans in the student’s names, payments begin after the student leaves school.

After these loans have been exhausted, parents can apply for a parent PLUS loan.

  • This is a loan in the parent’s name and based on the parent’s credit score.
  • Parents can defer payments while student is in school.
  • Interest does accrue while students are in school

If a summer course is associated with your study abroad, the HOPE scholarship may be an option.

  • You must already have the HOPE scholarship in order to use it during the summer semester.
  • The HOPE will only pay if you are in 6 or more credit hours in one term.
  • See Ariel Forbes in the Financial Aid Office for summer HOPE questions.
  • Other scholarships are available for qualified applicants. Contact studyabroad@tnwesleyan.edu for more information.
