Bobby Goodfriend Field at Athens Insurance Stadium Nears Completion

Tennessee Wesleyan University is excited to announce that significant renovations to its baseball field are in the final stages, marking a major milestone for the Bulldogs baseball program and the TWU community. Earlier this week, the field lighting and video scoreboard were turned on for the first time, demonstrating the technological enhancements that will be on display for the first pitch in the spring.

Thanks to the generous support of Dr. Bobby Goodfriend, Chair of the TWU Board of Trustees, and his wife, Wendy, the baseball facility at Athens Insurance Stadium has been transformed into a first-class venue for student-athletes and fans alike. The project, which was initiated earlier this year following a major gift announcement, delivers a range of upgraded features designed to enhance the competition and spectator experience.

Over the course of the renovation, crews installed lighting to allow for evening play, added a modern scoreboard with video capabilities, and expanded the outfield wall and playing surface. In addition, the concourse area received improvements including a renovated press box and concessions, additional restrooms, and expanded seating areas to better serve fans and families.

“These enhancements provide our student-athletes with unparalleled resources and reflect the commitment of our alumni and supporters to excellence in TWU athletics,” said Tennessee Wesleyan University President Dr. Tyler Forrest. “We are thrilled to see the progress and look forward to the new opportunities this renovation will create for our program. We are very thankful for the continued generosity of Bobby and Wendy Goodfriend and the support they show our campus.”

TWU Athletic Director Donny Mayfield noted that the improvements will significantly impact both current players and future recruits, offering a competitive advantage and elevating the game-day experience.

The upgrades position Tennessee Wesleyan as a potential host for the opening round of the NAIA National Tournament, an opportunity that could strengthen community engagement and regional athletics.
