University celebrates eighth annual Day of Service

246 Tennessee Wesleyan students gathered outside of Townsend Hall on Thursday morning, for the annual Day of Service group picture. This yearly event has become a beloved and honored tradition for students at TWU. For freshmen, it’s a rite of passage and an introduction to the heart of Wesleyan.

This is a day that the campus community is able to go out and give back to those around TWU that have given the city so much. In total, 17 local organizations were served by students, faculty and staff. In this eighth year, walls were painted, buildings were cleaned up and outdoor areas were cleared from trash and overgrowth, as well as bringing our Love Thy Neighbor food pantry outdoors where community members were able to shop in the market.

In total, 1,330 hours were served in Athens and surrounding communities. Students will continue to log their volunteer hours as the school year continues and provide valuable resources that will help organizations do what they do best – help the people of our great city.
