TWU Track & Field
Men’s and women’s track had a record year in 2018-2019. In addition to winning our first national relay championship in the Men’s 4x100m relay, the team set school records in most sprint, hurdle and jump events. We also sent more athletes to the indoor and outdoor national championships than at any other time in program history, last year producing 22 All Americans. Our academic and athletic success has been nationally recognized. We are now significantly better both on the track, and in the classroom than we were just two years ago. Each of our athletes has contributed to the growth and success of our program. We have provided them with an environment that allows them to thrive with three main strategies:
Academic Mentorship Program
Academic mentors monitor and advise each of our freshman in their adjustment from high school to a college level student-athlete. This program was a success as our freshmen ended the academic year with a 3.2 GPA and we retained 100% of them.
An Elite Development Plan
Our training plan works. It’s a conservative plan that allows for balance between academics and elite athletic performance. Since this program has proven itself effective over the years, we have had success recruiting elite level athletes. Bringing these athletes in has brought our practices to a much higher level and assured that each practice is of the best quality.
Running Against Elite Competition
Our athletes put in so much work that they have outgrown small local meets. We have had to seek out opportunities to travel in order to give them the chance to run against the best track teams in the nation. Last year we raised the money to compete at the Pepsi Florida Relays. This gave our athletes the experience they needed to run their best at our national tournament. We strongly believe that if we had not gone to Florida and competed with NCAA D1 teams, we would not have won the NAIA Relay Championship six weeks later.
This year is already a record year for the TWU track team. We officially have the biggest roster in program history with 80 athletes. We will continue to build on our successes and continue to implement our top three strategies mentioned above. In order be elite in every area our athletes need your help.
All gifts of any amount significantly impact the success of our growing program.
