TWU Announces New Health Services Partnership

The Tennessee Wesleyan University Student Life office announced a new health services partnership this week, joining with McMinn Primary Care to provide needed services to TWU students.

TWU students will have access to basic care, such as physical exams, general checkups, and prescription writing, at no cost. Additional services, such as flu and strep tests, x-rays, various testing, and blood work are also available at a discounted rate, or through the student’s insurance carrier.

Additionally, McMinn Primary Care provides COVID-19 testing, as well as the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine (vaccination appointments are accepted one day a week due to the shelf life of the vials once opened).

McMinn Primary Care has three locations, in Etowah, Madisonville, and the most convenient to the University, on Washington Ave in Athens, less than a mile from the TWU campus. Students have access to all three locations, as well as telehealth services.

“This partnership is really attractive to us,” said TWU VP of Student Life Dr. Scott Mashburn, “because of the three locations, but also because our students have more times and days they can receive care.”

“Previously students could be seen 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on campus, but now with our partnership with McMinn Primary Care, students can visit 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday.”

As an added benefit, students can visit McMinn Primary Care on any school breaks from August-May, such as fall break and spring break.

Students may call McMinn Primary Care at 423-745-6610 to set up an appointment.
