Favorite thing about your experience at TWU?

I loved the people and being a student-athlete at TWU. I am forever grateful for the family and some of the professors that this place has brought to me. I always felt like I was growing and evolving and had lots of love and support, especially from the people I least expected it. I could not be more thankful.

Do you have plans after graduation? Job? Grad School?

I’m trying to get some working experience before going to grad school. I also want to keep playing the sport that I love, improvise and discover new places for a while. I have lots of plans, but let’s see where life takes me.

Are there other unique aspects of your story?

Coming here as an international student changed me forever. Not only did I learn to appreciate and value more the culture and the place I came from, but also gained a whole new perspective of the world that surrounded me. This whole experience was also a reality check. I had to grow up and face many difficulties without having my family close. Money, injuries, chaos and uncertainty, etc. These have definitely been the best yet the most challenging years of my life. Completely worth it though. I’d 100% do it all over again.

What is one piece of advice you would give to an incoming TWU student?

Come without any expectations. Let this place surprise you and I promise it will. Be grateful for the opportunity you have and work hard. This experience goes by really fast, and nothing will matter in a few years but the memories that you make while being here. Don’t take things too seriously and enjoy every second of it. Coming here wanting to grow, embracing the difficulties, and having an open mind was key for me. I wish you the best!!

Favorite thing about your experience at TWU?

I loved the small class size at TWU. The math department was always a very small group of people, and I view that as a positive, not a negative. My professors worked hard to give us a depth of understanding that would prepare us for whatever our next step should be in math or in our careers. The people I had the pleasure of studying with were supportive and encouraging. The small class sizes allowed me to get to know most of my peers very well, and their kindness made me feel at home here at TWU from the very first class as a freshman.

Do you have plans after graduation? Job? Grad School?

I have accepted a job teaching high school mathematics in Cleveland, Tennessee!

Are there other unique aspects of your story?

I am a first-generation college student! I worked hard in school and was blessed to receive the Neff Scholarship. In order to pay the rest of my bills, I worked at the TWU cafeteria most evenings throughout my four years here.

What is one piece of advice you would give to an incoming TWU student?

Have fun, but don't lose sight of the end goal! It is very easy to lose your willpower when you come to college, especially if you're living away from home for the first time. Enjoy your new independence, but don't waste the opportunity you've been given. Take advantage of all the resources at TWU that will help you succeed, like your professor's office hours and the tutoring center at the library. Time will go by whether you're working hard or not. Make sure you're putting in the work to accomplish your goal.
