Stacy J. Swafford
Assistant Professor and Chair, Goodfriend School of Business; Faculty Athletic Representative
Stacy Swafford is a native of Harriman, Tennessee. After graduating from Middle Tennessee State University in 1991 with a double major in chemistry and biology, she began her career as an analytical chemist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. After working at both the National Lab and the Y-12 plant, she relocated to Cleveland. She received her Master’s in Business Administration from UT-Chattanooga in 1998, and she then worked in the healthcare and financial sectors. During her time working at a local bank, she began teaching in an adjunct capacity for TWC’s Business Administration Department.
In August, 2010, Mrs. Swafford became a full-time faculty member in the department, where she teaches primarily management and marketing courses. She is also the Cleveland director of the college’s Management Excellence degree completion program. She is a former faculty sponsor for the college’s Phi Beta Lambda chapter, and she serves as a faculty marshal. In 2015, she was awarded the Lockmiller Teacher of the Year Award at the spring honors convocation.
Mrs. Swafford is a candidate for the educational doctorate in Learning and Leadership at UT-Chattanooga. Her dissertation is titled “Factors Affecting Freshman Student Retention at Higher Education Institutions within the Appalachian College Association.” She and her husband, Kevin, live in Cleveland with their two teenagers. They are active members of First United Methodist Church in Cleveland. In their spare time, they enjoy watching their kids’ extracurricular activities and visiting major league baseball parks.
