Kathlene D. Smith
Professor of Nursing
I am Kathlene D. Smith. I attended the University of Tennessee and obtained four degrees from there. I have a BS in nursing, MS in nursing and exercise physiology, and a PhD in nursing. I teach in the nursing program in Knoxville and also taught in the diploma program at Fort Sanders Nursing School. I teach Psych/Mental Health Nursing and Adult Health Nursing II in both the classroom and the clinical areas. My research is in the field of psychoneuroimmunology and schizophrenia spectrum disorders.
I have been a nurse for 40 years, practicing in medical-surgical nursing, psychiatric nursing, administration, research, education, and as an expert witness. I still continue as a bedside nurse at 4 Covenant Health hospitals part time. My joy in life is my family and am very blessed to have four children and 10 grandchildren.
