Mark A. Shoop

Dr. Mark A. Shoop came to Tennessee Wesleyan College in 1999 and is a Professor of Biology in the Department of Natural Sciences. He serves as chair of the department and Associate Dean of the Division of Sciences and Mathematics. Dr. Shoop holds a Ph.D. in Animal Physiology from Clemson University and an M.S. and a B.S. in Biology from The Pennsylvania State University. In the Biology major he teaches General Biology II: The Diversity of Life; General Zoology; Vertebrate Anatomy and Development; Animal Physiology; Evolutionary Biology; and Vertebrate Endocrinology. Dr. Shoop also teaches Anatomy and Physiology I and II in the General Education program.
Dr. Shoop’s professional interests center on endocrine physiology, the chemical signaling within an animal’s body between various cells, tissues, and organs. He has a particular interest in stress responses, reproduction, and aging. Additionally he is curious of how biological phenomena have influenced the history of man.
