Campus Security Officer Stacy Shirk honored for dedication, ‘going above and beyond’

For Stacy Shirk, working as a campus safety officer at Tennessee Wesleyan University is a rewarding experience, both literally and professionally.
Shirk was named Employee of the Year by the Knoxville District of Dynamic Security, the firm that contracts with TWU. He said this is the first time this district has given the award and he is proud to have received it.
Dynamic Security’s Knoxville District Manager Pamela Pauley and Office Manager Scott Branch presented Shirk with a certificate and gift card when they told him the news. Pauley said Shirk was awarded for his “consistent support, leadership, dedication, and always going above and beyond what is required of him.”
“He has definitely become a most valued employee and easily earned this award,” Pauley said.
Shirk is captain of TWU’s six-employee security staff and has been on the job for a year. He enjoys being part of a dedicated team.
“I am more than just an employee to them – I’m part of the family,” he said.
His duties include patrolling campus, setting the schedule for other security officers, and writing parking tickets. His favorite part of the job is interacting with the students.
“The students here are really nice and it’s just a really nice place to work,” Shirk said.
“This is probably the best bunch of guys I’ve worked with,” Shirk added, noting he believes his coworkers helped him to be recognized as Employee of the Year.
Before going to work for Dynamic Security, Shirk worked as a security officer at DENSO Manufacturing Athens, Tennessee Inc. For 13 years before that, he worked as animal control officer for the City of Athens.
Dr. Scott Mashburn, TWU’s Vice President for Student Life and Chief Title IX Officer, informed the campus community earlier that he is pleased to announce Shirk was named Employee of the Year for the Knoxville District of Dynamic Security.
“Please take time to congratulate him when you see him,” Mashburn said.
