Jacob D’oliveira is successful on and off the track. Jacob has received the Neff Scholarship, and he is a member of the Bulldog cross country and track & field teams. He plans on majoring in forensic science in the fall. “I chose forensic science as my major because with that I have a chance to help people,” he said. “I also find it really intriguing and one of my role models actually is a forensic scientist.”

Rachel Gallison: Stafford Springs, Connecticut
Major: undecided

IMG_6433Rachel Gallison is from Connecticut, where it is cold most of the year, so she decided to move south to go to college. She chose Wesleyan because of the culture and the opportunities that are offered here. “I chose Wesleyan because I love the location, the people, and the outreach programs that TWU has to offer,” she said. “I was also able to be a part of the cross country and track teams which is really awesome. Plus, no snow!”

April Lewandowski: New Lenox, Illinois
Major: undecided

April Lewandowski has been successful in her academic studies and was named a 2016-2017 Illinois State Scholar. She credits her success to the support of her family. “It has allowed me to reflect on just how important structure, guidance and family support has been to my academic career,” she said. “From the late night homework/projects to midterms and finals, all of the hard work and dedication over the last 12 years (13 if you count kindergarten) and the tremendous amount of support from my family has led me to where I am today.”

Morgan Marshall: Madisonville, TN
Major: Fine Arts

Summer Morris: Maryville, Tennessee
Major: Biology

Summer Morris played basketball at William Blount High School. She is now a member of the TWU basketball team and a Neff Scholarship recipient. Being a student athlete is hard work, but this academic scholarship shows her hard work has paid off.  “Being a student athlete and receiving a prestigious academic scholarship makes me believe that I will thrive as a student and not just as an athlete,” she said.

Savannah Self: Englewood, Tennessee
Major: Music

IMG_6422 (1)Savannah Self was drawn to the small homey feel here at Wesleyan. She was born and raised in the area, and she wanted to stay close to home. “When I toured Tennessee Wesleyan for the first time, it just felt right,” she said. “I love the small campus and the ratio of students to professors.  I studied music under the direction of Dr. Douglas Manley at Wesleyan for several years, so I feel at home in the music department and on campus.  Furthermore, I love my community and wanted to stay close, so that I would be able to give back.”

Allie Virtue: Loudon, TN
Major: Elementary Education

Allie Virtue loves learning, but she also loves to share her knowledge. She was a mentor at a local middle school in her hometown, which led her to finding a passion for teaching. “I plan on majoring in elementary education because I love working with young children and helping them develop a love of learning that spans a lifetime,” she said.

Jennifer Williams: Knoxville, TN
