Dr. Stephen C. Byrum

Dr. Steve Byrum is a Founding Partner and Chief Content Officer of The Judgment Index USA, and the President and CEO of the Byrum Consulting Group, LLC. Dr. Byrum's work relates to the implementation of applications of "The Judgment Index"/"Hartman Value Profile," an assessment instrument that looks closely at the factor of judgment as it impacts human performance in the workplace. He has worked with the tool since 1970 and was a student of Robert S. Hartman, who created "The Hartman Value Profile" in the mid-1960's. Dr. Byrum works in the area of leadership development and the preparation of individuals for higher-level, executive levels of work.

Dr. Byrum holds degrees from Tennessee Wesleyan University (BA-1969), Southern Seminary (MDiv), and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (MA and Ph.D.). He has done post-graduate work at Princeton University, Vanderbilt University, and Spellman College on National Endowment for the Humanities and National Science Foundation grants. He holds an adjunct faculty status at the University of South Florida School of Medicine and is a regular participant in teaching roles at Yale-New Haven Healthcare System's "Institute of Excellence." Dr. Byrum is the author of nearly 200 books and periodical articles.

For twenty-five years, Dr. Byrum taught on the university and college level. He also served as an Associate Dean, heading an arts and humanities division. In addition to his teaching, he had for twenty-two years a personal and family counseling practice. He is retired from the Holston Conference as an ordained Elder in the United Methodist Church and is in his second tenure on the Board of Trustees at Tennessee Wesleyan.

With an emphasis on healthcare-related clients, Dr. Byrum presently works with Memorial Hermann Healthcare System, Yale-New Haven Healthcare System, the University of South Florida School of Medicine, Mayo Clinic Rochester, the Michigan Hospital Association, and a variety of Blue Cross plans across the country. He has a strong passion for the work of Hospice organizations, long-term care organizations, and children's hospitals.

Dr. Byrum and his wife, Phyllis, reside in Signal Mountain, Tennessee near Chattanooga. They have two children and three grandchildren. They are active members of First-Centenary UMC in Chattanooga where for the past 15 years he has been the teacher of the Morgan Sunday School Class.
