Travel study/excursion program in Costa Rica: spring break March 2 – 9, 2019
Travel with Dr. Ana Barrios to Costa Rica for a week’s immersion in the Spanish language as well as in the natural beauty and culture of the country. Students who have completed S102 may earn three hours’ credit for S299, Study Abroad in Spanish, credit that counts toward the minor. If you are less proficient in Spanish, an excursion option is also available.
Summer study in France through the Chez Vous Program: May 8 –June 17, 2019
Chez Vous Summer offers a relational focus that helps students connect with French people in their everyday life through their culture, history, and faith. Through classes and/or cultural activities, students are able to absorb more rapidly the language and culture around them. Students must have completed French 102 or higher in order to participate. Courses are conducted in cooperation with the University of Caen (Normandy) and with French Departments from North American Christian universities. Depending on the study track, you may gain 6-18 hours of French credit.
Travel to Ireland, England, and Scotland: May 28 – June 8, 2019
Join Dr. Martha Maddox and Mrs. Anne Montgomery on a trip to see the sights in the British Isles. You will have the opportunity to visit businesses and earn academic credit for BA 391 – Cross-Cultural Management and Travel, a course required for the International Business emphasis in the BS in Business Administration. An excursion option is also available.
Study the tropical ecology and biodiversity of Costa Rica: May 20 – 28, 2019
Travel with Drs. Grant Willhite and Alex Pilote and experience the biodiversity and fragility of the tropical ecosystems of Costa Rica. A number of disciplinary viewpoints will be utilized, including biology, geology, political science, and economics. This course is open to students in all disciplines. Credit is available for B399 (Study Abroad in Biology).
Travel and study in Vietnam: June 1 – 20, 2019
Travel with Dr. Hai Nguyen and explore the culture and scenery of Vietnam as well as engage in math and science activities with children in Vietnamese schools. Course credit for ED299 is available.
Japanese language and culture program, Nagasaki Wesleyan University: July 1 – 24, 2019
Study at our sister institution and receive 3 - 6 hours’ credit for Study Abroad in Japanese (JPN 299) while learning Japanese, experiencing such cultural activities as Japanese Meditation and the Tea Ceremony, and exploring the area around Isahaya, Japan.
Ways of life in London: culture, diversity and occupation: July 28 – August 13, 2019
Broaden your understanding of the contemporary and traditional ways of life in London, England. While immersing yourself in the culture, enhance your understanding of what people value as occupations and how they spend their time. Participate in interviews, structured observations, journaling, and group discussions as part of your classroom abroad experiences. Learning sites include Westminster Abbey, Camden Market, St. Paul’s Cathedral, and Buckingham Palace as well as local hospitals, museums, and state-of-the-art child development centers. An excellent preparation for students majoring in the health sciences, social sciences, business, and other disciplines where interacting with other people is required, this course is offered through the Cooperative Center for Study Abroad (CCSA).
