The foundation of the liberal arts is a full education. Students don’t simply come to TWU, learn a single subject of interest, and move on to a job. At Wesleyan, students have a strong understanding of numerous subjects which not only make them better professionals, but better human beings.

Wesleyan Essentials is the general education core curriculum required of every student, regardless of their discipline. The broad-based set of courses are designed to train students in foundational liberal arts topics, with multiple opportunities for students to tailor these courses to their degree and career goals.

At Tennessee Wesleyan, our curriculum is divided in these main categories that help our students develop and reach their highest potential.

  • Written Word
  • Spoken Word
  • Scientific Perspectives
  • Western Heritage
  • Artistic Expression
  • Societal Perspectives
  • Cultural Diversity

Students complete at least six hours in every category, where there are a variety of disciplines represented to provide students with ample opportunities.

TWU prepares students with the transformative experience and to be well-rounded leaders who make a positive impact on the world.
