Professor of English
Elizabeth Sayle Ruleman attended the University of the South and earned degrees in English at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and at the University of Memphis. She completed her Ph.D. in English at The University of Arkansas. She began teaching at Tennessee Wesleyan in 1997 and currently serves as Chair of the Department of English and Modern Languages and Associate Dean for the Humanities. She also serves as the point person for Study Abroad and as the faculty sponsor of Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society.
Professor Ruleman teaches literature and composition as well as English Grammar and Usage and Books and Related Materials for Children. Her primary literary interests are British novels of the nineteenth century and especially the fiction of Austen, the Brontës, Elizabeth Gaskell, and George Eliot. She loves to travel, both literally and figuratively through books.
